About Beth Ann

Dr. Labadorf loves using communication courses to help develop students as they learn both practical job skills and the people skills to love and lead effectively. She has a BA in Communication, a MA in Communication Studies, and a PhD in Communications. She also has certificates in Advanced Research Methodologies and Foundations in College Teaching. Dr. Labadorf currently teaches courses in public speaking, research methods, and applied communication. Her previous teaching experience includes courses in interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and public relations.

Her experience includes projects such as a communication assessment of an international company, an interdisciplinary consultation project with a city government, and working on the Communication team of the I-HOPE project: Indiana Healthy Opportunities for People Everywhere. This grant funded work with local health departments and community organizations throughout Indiana focused on assessing the efficacy of health messages and creating tailored messaging for communities.

Her research interests include crisis communication, health communication, and applied message testing, and her dissertation explored health communication and communication theory in the context of smartphone use and habit change. She has presented work in crisis communication and message testing around the world at conferences such as the International Communication Association and the National Communication Association. Dr. Labadorf grew up in a military family in the cornfields of Indiana and has traveled extensively to countries such as Japan, Spain, the Philippines, and France. She has also taught a study abroad class in Siena, Italy. She married her husband, James, in 2017, and they enjoy snuggles and bike rides with their two young children.
