About Jeff
Dr. Jeff King is currently the Head of the Engineering Department and an Associate Professor at Bob Jones University. He teaches courses in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. He is the BJU Campus Director for the SC Space Grant Consortium. Dr. King is also the faculty mentor and chief space nerd for the BJU Satellite team.
Dr. King previously served as a Permanent Military Professor and Chair of the Aerospace Engineering Department at the United States Naval Academy. During his 28 years of active duty in the Navy, he flew the SH-60B Helicopter with HSL-47 on multiple deployments and gained over 10 years of acquisition and engineering experience across various national space systems. Dr. King holds a Ph.D. in Astronautical Engineering, and his research interests include Satellite Attitude Dynamics, Trajectory Optimization, Systems Engineering Processes, and Engineering Education.
Dr. King worships and serves with his wife at Faith Baptist Church, Easley, SC.
Industry/Government Experience:
- 2008 – 2011: Chief Systems Engineer, PMW-146 MUOS, SPAWARSYSCOM
- 2005 – 2008: Government Flight Representative, DCMA Sikorsky Aircraft
- 2002 – 2005: Spacecraft Division Director, Low Earth Orbit Program Office, National Reconnaissance Office.
- 1993 – 2000: Naval Aviator, HSl-41, HSL-47 with multiple deployments.
- 1993 – 2021: Active Duty Naval Officer, Retired with the rank of Commander (O-5).
