Jeanette Schlimgen

   When Mrs. Schlimgen came to BJU as an undergraduate, she began a fulfilling calling into performance and teaching.  BJU's instrumental and choral departments provided outstanding experiences in band, orchestra, chamber groups and chorus.  Upon graduating from BJU, she taught band and chorus in middle and high schools in Georgia and Ohio.

   Mrs. Schlimgen joined the Brass Department at BJU in the fall of 1984.  She holds degrees from BJU (B.S.) and The Ohio State University (M.A.) in Music Education.  She has studied with Jim Conley (BJU), Brice Andrus (Atlanta Symphony), Nicholas Perrini (Columbus Symphony), and Martin Hackleman (Canadian and Empire Brass). Her performance career included section and substitute horn in the Emory Wind Ensemble, the Greenville, Asheville, Hendersonville, and Anderson (GAMAC) Symphonies.  She has been a member of the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra since 1998.

   In her experience teaching beginners through graduate school, Mrs. Schlimgen provides technical studies and horn literature to teach a student from his or her unique level.  Always the goal is to fine-tune abilities, enabling each student to perform for the glory of God.

   Mrs. Schlimgen is active in the instrumental and choral ministry of Faith Free Presbyterian Church. She has been a member of MTNA, and has edited the horn list for the National Federation of Music Clubs competition bulletin.  In her spare time she enjoys gardening and reading great literature.
