Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Human & Social Services prepares students to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, students develop practical skills in assessment, case management, crisis response, and service coordination.

Coursework integrates theory with hands-on learning, equipping students to think critically, act ethically, and serve compassionately across diverse settings. Grounded in a biblical worldview, the program emphasizes dignity, cultural awareness, and holistic care.

Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in human services or for continued study in counseling, social work, or related fields.

In addition, over 60 businesses and 150 Christian schools/mission boards/Christian organizations come on campus to recruit students through on-campus interviews and job/ministry fairs. The Career Services office also helps students by holding seminars on resume preparation and interview techniques.

From nonprofits to healthcare systems to community agencies, this degree prepares you for a wide range of careers focused on helping others and strengthening communities.

Learning Experience

Field Experience & Internships

You’ll gain real-world experience through supervised fieldwork and internships, applying what you learn in the classroom while developing professional skills and confidence.

Service-Learning

Throughout the program, you’ll participate in service-learning opportunities that connect you directly with community needs, helping you grow in both competence and compassion.

Capstone Experience

Your program culminates in a service-learning capstone project where you’ll assess a need, implement a solution, and evaluate outcomes—preparing you to step into your career ready to make a difference.

Cait Reid currently serves at Bob Jones University as an assistant professor and program coordinator in the Division of Human Services. She graduated from BJU with a B.A. in Spanish in 2011. She completed her Master's in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa in 2013. She is currently pursing her Ed.D. in Community Care & Counseling, Traumatology from Liberty University.

Program Objectives

Each student will:

  • Integrate foundational theories and skills to provide ethical, client-centered support across diverse service settings.
  • Apply ethical standards, maintain professional boundaries, and engage in responsible decision-making consistent with expectations of the human and social services field.
  • Evaluate and apply research to guide effective human and social services interventions, and they will use observations and data from practice settings to refine services, inform inquiry, and contribute to evidence-based improvement within the human services field.
  • Demonstrate competency in assessment, planning, referral, documentation, and intervention to support client stability and growth.
