Campus Life for International Students
Most international students live on campus at BJU, allowing them to stay plugged in to campus activities without having to worry about transportation. The BJU campus community provides a safe, supportive environment to adjust to life in a new country with easy access to classes, dining, and campus resources.
Living on Campus
No application is required to reserve a room in our on-campus residence halls. Admitted students wanting to live on campus will receive room assignments at the beginning of August.
All BJU dorms are closed during Christmas Break. While some travel home, many international students choose to stay with friends and their families in the United States.
BJU offers a variety of dining options on campus for students to choose from. Students living on campus will get unlimited access to our Dining Common and a prepaid balance of Bruins Bucks to spend at on-campus restaurants. Students living off campus should purchase one of our Meal Plans from Campus Dish.
BJU dining services will be closed during Thanksgiving, Christmas Break, and Spring Break.

Healthcare
BJU provides students with a basic health insurance plan that meets government requirements for international students. For more information, contact our Associate Director of International Student Services.
Our on-campus Student Health Services is the primary place for student health support. A nurse is available Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to help students identify appropriate medical treatment options for their illness or injury. A number of basic health services are available as well. Students can go the office in the east end of Reveal (facing the parking garage) or reach them at (864) 241-1685 or by email.
Academic Support
ELL support is available to non-native speakers of English in the form of Extended Test Time (which includes both tests and quizzes). Qualified students will be granted extended test time based on their academic classification each semester:
- Freshman: 40% extra time
- Sophomore: 30% extra time
- Junior: 20% extra time
- Senior: No extra time
The Accommodations Supervisor will notify qualified students via their BJU email during the first week of classes each semester.
Qualifications for ESOL Status
Students who meet both of the following qualifications will be given Extended Test Time.
- Students self-identify as ESOL
- Take an English proficiency test during the admission process
Questions?
If you have any questions regarding the procedures for ESOL accommodations, please contact the Academic Accommodations Supervisor.
