Frequently Asked Questions

You should apply online 6-9 months before you intend to enroll. It takes 6 months on average to get to the point to apply for an F-1 visa.
When should I apply for a visa?
You will apply for a visa after you have been admitted and have received your I-20 form from BJU. Visa processing can take time, so aim to have all admission materials submitted several months before you intend to begin classes. To learn more about the visa process, visit our page on Visa & Immigration.
I’m a refugee/asylum seeker. How do I apply?
You will follow the same application process as an international student. Additionally, you must submit proof of your immigration status. After being admitted, you do not need to complete the visa process.
I’ve applied for permanent residency. Am I considered an international student?
Students who have been approved for permanent residency and have received their green card will follow the general admission process. If your application is still pending, you are considered an international student. After being admitted, you do not need to complete the visa process.
I’m a transfer student. How do I apply?
Visit our International Transfer Students page to learn more about your admission process.
Do you accept IGCSE or Cambridge system?
Yes, we require 5 passes in 5 different academic subjects at the O-level or above for admittance.
What English tests do you accept?
We accept scores from TOEFL iBT, TOEFL Essentials, IELTS, GATEWAY (E3PT), and Duolingo English Test for admission. To see our score requirements, please visit our Admission Process.
My previous school taught in English. Can I request an English waiver?
BJU requires all non-native speakers of English to submit English proficiency test scores for admittance. Students who have studied for at least 2 years in person at a U.S. high school are eligible to request a waiver. Accepting a waiver disqualifies you from receiving ESOL academic accommodation.
Do I have to submit an international transcript evaluation?
If your school did not use a U.S.-based curriculum, you must have your transcripts evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation company. Please visit the Admission Process page for more details. Homeschool students do not need to submit a transcript evaluation.
Do you have financial aid for international students?
Yes, international students qualify for academic scholarship and need-based financial aid after they are admitted. For more information, explore our scholarship opportunities webpage.
Does BJU offer full scholarships?
No, BJU does not offer full scholarships at this time. International students qualify for partial-tuition academic scholarship and need-based financial aid after they are admitted.
I have a financial sponsor. How do they help?
Financial sponsors should submit a signed and notarized financial affidavit guaranteeing the amount they want to sponsor. They must also submit bank statements as proof of funds. If they are sponsoring on behalf of an organization and the submitted bank statement is under the organization’s name, the organization will need to issue a formal letter authorizing your sponsor to utilize the accounts submitted. Sponsor documents can be submitted to [email protected].
Is the $250 enrollment deposit refundable?
Yes, the enrollment deposit is refundable until August 1. If you choose to attend BJU, the deposit will be credited towards your first tuition bill.
Why is the amount on the affidavit different than my tuition bill?
The affidavit is for the U.S. government and is based on the average cost of living in Greenville, SC, for one year. It includes both direct costs to BJU and indirect costs of the student (like books and personal expenses). That is why the cost is more than what will be owed to BJU — because it also includes personal living expenses.
Do you have an International Orientation?
Yes, all new international students are required to attend New International Student Orientation to help them adjust to campus life at BJU and college life in America. It’s a great time to get used to campus and meet new friends!
Yes, international students are allowed to work on campus following their visa guidelines. For more information, visit our webpage on campus employment.
Where is the nearest airport to BJU?
The nearest airport is the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP).
